AfDB backs Tinubu’s economic reforms, seeks to improve food security
The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has cried out to the Federal Government, saying that Nigerians are suffocating in insecurity and hunger.
The church stated that it was not comfortable the way Nigerians now live, stressing that government by its actions seemed to be pleased with the hardship the people are passing through.
Making the church’s feelings known yesterday while preaching a the consecration of seven new Bishops and presentation of four new Archbishops, during the Church of Nigeria Standing Committee meeting in Enugu State, the Bishop of Ihiala, Rt. Rev. Prof. Israel Okoye, lamented that governments in Nigeria have by their greed turned God’s blessing to the country into a curse.
Bishop Okoye stressed that very few individuals who made themselves cartels have usurp the wealth of the nation and render the country very poor with untold hardship while government looks away.
HOWEVER, the African Development Bank (AfDB) on Wednesday commended President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, emphasising their importance in tackling Nigeria’s pressing economic challenges. Also the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has discussed strategies with the AfDB on how to improve food security in the country, in view of the next harvest season.
They both spoke during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the bank led by the Director General for Nigeria, Abdul Kamara. The meeting, which was held in Abuja, explored a range of potential areas for collaboration between the Ministry and the AfDB.
A statement by the Director, Information and Public Relations, Mohammed Manga, said key topics discussed included initiatives to streng-then food security, Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones project, and other strategic engagements aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria.
The Minister highlighted, “The critical role of AfDB’s funding and technical expertise as Nigeria approaches a pivotal harvest season, which is essential for the country’s food security and economic stability.”
Rising food prices have been a recurring issue in recent years.
