Ipswich vs Aston Villa predictions: Villans to march on

– Five of Aston Villa’s six wins this season all came with both teams finding the net
– Ipswich have scored in three of their last four Premier League matches
– Recommended bet: Aston Villa to win & both teams to score

Aston Villa have only found Arsenal too strong in their first five Premier League outings and Unai Emery’s in-form team will have designs on making it five wins from six matches when they visit Ipswich on Sunday.

The Tractor Boys are yet to claim a win since their promotion and Kieran McKenna will be acutely aware of the threat posed by Villa, even if the visitors might already have one eye on their midweek Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

Team news

Ipswich are sweating on the fitness of Kalvin Phillips, Nathan Broadhead and Harry Clarke but centre-back Janoi Donacien is the only confirmed absentee for the Tractor Boys.

Villa skipper John McGinn will be sidelined for several weeks after he sustained a hamstring injury in the win over Wolves while Diego Carlos is a doubt after pulling up in the warm-up before the midweek EFL Cup clash with Wycombe.

Question marks remain over Matty Cash and Lucas Digne’s availability with the full-backs prioritising being fit for the Champions League. Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings and Jaden Philogene join McGinn in being ruled out.

The stats

Aston Villa have beaten West Ham, Leicester, Everton and Wolves in the Premier League this season despite failing to keep a clean sheet in all four contests.

Villa striker Jhon Duran tops the goalscoring charts for the visitors with four strikes from five substitute appearances.

Ipswich have shared the goals around so far this term with Liam Delap, Sam Morsy and Sammie Szmodics netting their three Premier League strikes.

Only Manchester City and Chelsea entered the weekend having scored more Premier League goals than Villa’s 10.

Prediction

Aston Villa have picked up where they left off last season and should have more than enough class to account for Ipswich in a high-scoring contest.

After losing 2-0 to Arsenal in a game in which Ollie Watkins spurned two huge chances, Villa have swatted aside three inferior rivals in their subsequent Premier League matches and a trip to Portman Road is unlikely to spark fear into the hearts of Emery’s men.

Ipswich required a last-minute leveller to earn a point at Southampton last weekend and the manner of that performance will concern McKenna, who knows his team can’t afford to pass up too many opportunities against their relegation rivals.

Portman Road will be rocking on Sunday afternoon and Ipswich, who have scored in three of their last four games, will fancy their chances of getting on the scoresheet.

However, Villa have been in sparkling form and in Watkins, Jacob Ramsey, Leon Bailey and Morgan Rogers – plus impact sub Duran – they have the attacking talent to put their hosts to the sword.
