Jigawa imposes curfew after series of violent attacks

The Hadejia Emirate Council in Jigawa State, in collaboration with the Security Committee of Hadejia Local Government and the authorities of Malam Madori and Kirikasamma local governments, has imposed a curfew to tackle escalating security concerns in the region.

This decision follows a series of violent incidents, including the tragic killing of a newly married woman, Zainab Ibrahim, who was found critically injured in her home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia.

During an emergency meeting on Friday, March 15, 2025, Galadiman Hadejia, Usman Abdul’aziz, speaking on behalf of the emirate council, expressed deep concern over the rising insecurity. He urged local government leaders to work closely with security agencies to restore peace.

Ahmed Ari, chairman of the Security Committee of Hadejia Local Government Council, announced that the stakeholders had agreed to impose a curfew from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m., effective immediately. The measure aims to curb violent attacks and safeguard residents.

Additionally, authorities will establish security checkpoints at the six main entry points to Hadejia town to monitor movements and prevent further threats. Joint patrols involving security agencies and vigilante groups will also be reinforced to improve surveillance across the affected areas.

Residents have been urged to comply with the curfew and cooperate with security forces to ensure a safer environment.
