The Edo State of House Assembly has appealed to heads of security agencies in the state to transfer any of its personnel that has served more than five years in a particular location.
DAILY POST reports that the House made the appeal on Wednesday in its resolution on a motion moved by Sunny Ojiezele, the APC member representing Esan South East constituency.
The House also passed a resolution urging the state government to compel traditional rulers in the state to reside in their various communities and clans for the purpose of providing good leadership and security for the people.
“We want to appeal to the state government to mobilise various security agencies to comb the entire forests not only in the Edo Central Senatorial district but the entire state to flush out these kidnappers.
“We also appeal to heads of security agencies in the state to transfer any personnel who have served more than five in any station or locality in Edo.
“The House further appealed to all traditional rulers to reside within their domain to provide leadership,” the lawmakers said in the resolution.
Ojiezele had opined that the motion would go a long way to stem the tide of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
While noting that there was palpable fear and tension in the Esan South-East, he added that the people have been put under duress by kidnappers who operated openly in daylight and at night.
He posited that the people of Esan South-East constituency who came home to establish small-scale businesses were now being targeted and kidnapped on a daily basis.
“Many of them have been killed as they could not meet up with the financial demands of the kidnappers and sometimes their body parts sold to buyers.
“Business activities are at the lowest ebb as people cannot go to their respective business places and there is increasing hardship in the area,” he said.
