Luton vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions: Hatters back on track

– Sheffield Wednesday have taken one point from their last four league games
– The Owls have lost 17 of their last 25 away matches in the Championship
– Recommended bet: Luton to win

Luton have struggled to get going in the Championship following last season’s relegation from the Premier League, but the Hatters got their first win on the board away at Millwall last weekend.

That hard-fought 1-0 success at The Den could be what sparks Luton into life and this represents an excellent opportunity for them to follow up against Sheffield Wednesday who, like the hosts, have collected only four points from their first five assignments.

Wednesday were emphatic 4-0 winners at home to Plymouth in their Championship opener but they have since lost to nil against Sunderland, Leeds and Millwall as well as being held to a 1-1 draw by Queen’s Park Rangers.

Luton have been beaten at home to Burnley and QPR in their first two league outings at Kenilworth Road but plenty of their Premier League talent remains and it may not be long before they are climbing up the Championship charts.

Team news

Luton remain without forward Jacob Brown and defenders Daiki Hashioka and Tom Lockyer, while veteran goalkeeper Tim Krul is another still missing.

For Sheffield Wednesday, the injury situation is much healthier with shot-stopper Ben Hamer and holding midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah their only confirmed absentees.

The stats

Luton have won six of their last seven league games against Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have failed to win any of their last eight away league games against Luton.

Wednesday have taken only one point from their last four league games and they have lost 17 of their last 25 away matches in the Championship.

The visitors have lost their two Championship away games this season to nil, losing 4-0 at Sunderland and 3-0 at Millwall.

Five of Luton’s last seven Championship matches have ended with under 2.5 goals.

Both teams have scored in only one of Wednesday’s last seven Championship clashes.

Prediction

While it has been an underwhelming start to the season for Luton, the Hatters have serious quality throughout their squad and last weekend’s 1-0 win at Millwall provides them with a platform to build on.

Rob Edwards has a lot of Premier League talent still at his disposal and that victory at The Den should have gone a long way to restoring the confidence that had been shot following last season’s relegation from the top-flight.

With that in mind, Luton can make the most of home advantage against a Sheffield Wednesday side that are often plagued on their travels.

The Owls have lost 4-0 at Sunderland and 3-0 at Millwall already this season, which means they have suffered defeat in 17 of their last 25 away matches in the Championship.

That is a weakness that Luton should be looking to exploit and the attacking quality of Carlton Morris, Elijah Adebayo and Tahith Chong can inspire them to maximum points against Wednesday, who have conceded 10 goals across their last four league outings.
