PEARLAND, Texas — Police are investigating after a man says bullets ripped through his car while he was driving on Highway 288 in Pearland.
The man, who does not want to be identified, says road rage is to blame. He considers himself lucky but the only damage is to his car and peace of mind.
“The second bullet that was shot which broke the glass could have hit my head,” he said.
While driving back to Houston along 288 last week, he said a car came up behind him in the fast lane. He said both he and the other driver tried to switch lanes at the same time.
“So, moved back into the left lane, and they thought I was cutting them off. So they moved into the shoulder to the left of me, the emergency lane pulled up next to me and started shooting,” he said.
His window was shattered.
“He was very lucky that the door jam stopped the bullet and shattered,” said one of the mechanics working on his car.
Pearland police said they are looking at license plate cameras in the area, hoping to track down the other driver.
“Unfortunately there’s some people out there that they don’t have don’t have any care for people’s lives or the repercussions to what may happen,” said Chad Rogers with Pearland police.
As for the victim, he said he could fix his car, but the violence stays on top of his mind.
“It’s shocking to see how people can lose control of their temper and do something that could have fatal consequences,” he said.
Pearland police said this would be considered an extremely serious felony case and once the driver or passenger is identified, the Brazoria County District Attorney’s office will likely pursue charges.
