My family, close friends shaped my life

Sierra Leonean singer Jelly Bee, born Betty Lamboi, has sealed her place in the African music scene, particularly after her recent body of work titled “Sappy”.

Although she would tell anyone who cares to listen that her single “Better Than” opened the door to the limelight after signing up with her current management, ABangz Originals, the beginning is something she would rather not forget.

She is definitely riding the waves now and having her music loved by many. The beginning, according to her, was filled with ups and downs that nearly tore her apart safe for the rest of her family, close friends and her management.

She recounts her experience, “Tough, very tough because I had to deal with different people such as producers, DJs, bloggers/promoters, dancers, all on my own. Not to talk of sleepless nights, training/practices and health issues. The expectations from people going from stage to stage and also financial issues made it even tougher. And those who have shaped my life are my family, my close friends and my current management @ABangz Originals.

“My first big signing with ABangz Originals gave me a breakthrough and recognition in the Sierra Leonean entertainment Industry

“My single, “Batter Than” is still my favourite among others because it tells my story and it reminds me of the past, what I and my entire family have been through especially my Dad. Listening to the song makes me emotional.”

Jelly Bee who dreams of collaborations with the likes of Shadow Boxer, Drizilik, Natasha, Davido, Olamide, Sarkodie and some others believes her style of music sets her apart from other upcoming acts in Africa.

”My sound and style of music distinguishes me from others because I have a different and unique way of passing on my message through music.

” And I got my inspiration from real life experiences and things that happen around me and the society as a whole and my production process is a mix of African and European sound to make it more unique,” she says.

The Sierra Leonean music sensation looks to make her music globally appealing because her ultimate goal is to win many African Awards as well as international ones like the BET Awards and the Grammys.
