The Niger House of Assembly joint Committees on Works/ Infrastructure and Health/Nutrition ordered the immediate suspension of ongoing construction work at IBB University Teaching Hospital.
They also ordered the Contractors handling the project to appear before the Committee to effect correction where necessary and save the N18b teaching hospital project.
The committee alleged poor performance and irregularities at the construction site by the contractors handling the project.
The House Committee Chairman on Works and Infrastructure, Hon. Arc. Suleiman Abubakar Gomna in his reaction, expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of work, arguing that the level of work done so far was not commensurate with the over N9b already released by the State Government.
” The 10th Assembly will not tolerate any act of lawlessness nor will they compromise standards. The Contractors handling the project should appear before the Committee in order to effect correction where necessary and save the project of about #18 Billion,” he insisted.
Meanwhile, the House committee chairman on Health and Nutrition, Umar Nasir (Paikoro) noted that the importance of the project can not be over-emphasized as it will serve the entire state.
He said, ” As representatives of the people, we will not fold our arms and allow some individual sabotage the efforts of Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago in achieving his New Niger Agenda”.
Earlier, the Director of Public Building Ministry of Works, Architect Salihu Muhammad Wanigi alleged the non-adherence to instructions by the contractor stating, ” the issue of consultancy has been misunderstood in the state”.
