Niger Govt issues 48-hr ultimatum to joint taskforce to clear major road


The Niger State Government has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the joint task force committee, assigned the duty of clearing the Lambata-Maje-Diko Road, which has been plagued by persistent gridlocks, disrupting commuters’ travel.

The committee includes the commissioners for Homeland Security,Transport and Works as well as the representatives of Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Security, Vehicle Inspection Office ,and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.

The mandate of the Task Force Committee includes clearing all broken down articulated vehicles on the road and those parked along the roadside.

Others are provision of alternative routes for smaller vehicles and the paving of way for Salini Construction Company to fix all the bad portions of the road with immediate effect.

The task force’s maiden meeting chaired by the Commissioner for Homeland Security,General Mohammed Bello (retd) deliberated on how best to execute the task and immediately swung into action.

Commuters on the Lambata–Maje– Dikko Road have in recent times witnessed long hours of traffic gridlock due to indiscriminate parking of articulated vehicles by the roadside among other violations on the road.
