Tragedy struck at Okete village in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State along the Otukpo/Oweto Expressway as a truck rammed into a building, killing nine members of a family and injuring others.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the victims were said to be sleeping comfortably in their house.
An eyewitness account said the nine members of the family died instantly.
However, the cause of the accident is sketchy, but a source said that it might be connected to over-speeding by the driver.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, told DAILY POST she had just received the information on her mobile phone and expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives.
