NPF pays N15.6bn to 5,225 family members of slain personnel


The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has paid a total of N15,606,138,376 to 5,225 family members and next of kin of slain police personnel between 2023 and 2024, the lnspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has revealed.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday while presenting cheques to the families and next of kin of the deceased, IGP Egbetokun explained that the disbursement covered balance payments for insurance policies for the years 2018-2019, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.

According to him, “a total of N9,851,847,889.88 was paid to 3,077 families and next of kin on six different occasions between July 2023 and June 2024.”

He explained that the force would be presenting checks totalling N5,754,290,486.38 to the families of deceased police officers who have selflessly given their lives in service of Nigeria.

According to him, the force has presented cheques amounting to N15,606,138,376 to 5,225 family members and next of kin of deceased officers.

Before today’s event, IGP Egbetokun further stated that they have presented cheques totalling N9,851,847,889.88 to 3,077 families and next of kin of departed colleagues at six separate presentation ceremonies between July 2023 and June 2024.

He added that they would be presenting cheques totalling N5,754,290,486.38 to the families of deceased police officers who have selflessly given their lives in service of the great nation Nigeria.

IGP Egbetokun said that Tuesday’s presentation is the largest disbursement ever in the history of check presentations to family members of deceased police officers, stressing that it reflects the commitment to easing the burden on the families of our fallen colleagues.

He stated that Tuesday’s disbursement covers balance payments for insurance policies for the years 2018-2019, 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024.

To the families of the fallen officers, he said that while they cannot fill the void left by the loss of their loved ones, the cheques will provide some support as they face the challenges ahead.
