The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six motorcycle thieves who specialized in violent attacks and the theft of motorbikes from unsuspecting victims in the Gurin Gawa and Bechi areas of Kumbotso Local Government.
The suspects, currently in NSCDC custody, are under investigation as part of efforts to pursue necessary legal action.
The arrested individuals are: Najib Lawal, 25 years, Bashir Bello Idris, 34 years, Lawan Yakubu, 27 years, Kabiru Garba, 29 years, Hussain Hassan, 24 years, Mubarak Basiru, 21 years.
Two other members of the gang remain at large, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend them.
According to the NSCDC, on January 14, 2025, at about 3:00 a.m., two of the suspects, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan, forcefully broke into the home of Malam Abdullahi Bala in Gurin Gawa. They assaulted him and stole his motorcycle. However, with the assistance of local vigilante members and the Corps’ Kumbotso Division, the two attackers were apprehended.
Further investigation led to the arrest of four more suspects, including two individuals who received stolen motorcycles. So far, two stolen motorbikes have been recovered, and efforts are ongoing to recover additional items.
The Commandant of the NSCDC in Kano, Mohammed Lawal, has directed the Armed Squad Unit to intensify patrols around the Eastern Bypass and other areas within the metropolis to deter criminal activities.
