Osun gov recites ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’ as old national anthem returns

In a video shared by his Special Adviser on SDG and Multilateral Relations, Banks Omishore, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State is seen reciting the first stanza of the newly introduced national anthem.

The old national anthem which was re-introduced came into force when President Bola Tinubu signed the bill reintroducing it into law on Wednesday.

The caption attached to the video read, “Governor #Adeleke_01 takes on the first stanza of the Renewed Anthem just signed by #OfficialABAT” Tinubu.”

This development follows the passage of a bill by the National Assembly to reinstate the colonial-era national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” in place of “Arise, O Compatriots.”

The bill’s sponsor, Julius Ihonvbere, argued that the change aims to promote patriotism and nationalism.

The 10th Senate approved the bill after reviewing a report by the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Tahir Monguno.
