The Osun State Police Command has cautioned political parties in the state to avoid any form of violence during the forthcoming local government election.
The warning was issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Yemisi Olawoyin Opalola, while speaking at a two-day workshop organised by the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Osun State chapter on Wednesday.
Opalola urged political stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
Opalola also called on eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and exercise their franchise, assuring them that security agencies had made adequate arrangements to ensure their safet
“We encourage all voters to come out and cast their votes without fear, as security agencies will be on the ground to maintain order,” she said.
She further warned against any act of violence, stressing that law enforcement officers would not hesitate to take decisive action against troublemakers.
“The police will deal decisively with anyone found disrupting the peace or violating electoral laws,” she added.
The workshop was attended by key stakeholders, including a representative of the Commissioner of Police, CSP Adebisi Musibau, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Mutiu Agboke.
At the meeting, the Osun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful election and urged all parties to adhere strictly to the rules governing the electoral process.
