Osun: Police warn residents against fraudsters, child molesters


The Osun State Police Command has cautioned residents and business owners against fraudulent bank alerts.

The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, issued the note of caution while parading criminals at the state police headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Opalola who also warned against criminal activities within the state advised parents to keep watch on their underaged children to prevent defilement.

She issued the warning on the heels of a case of defilement of a five year old female child which is already a subject of litigation.

She said, “I want to caution business owners and traders to be aware of fraudsters who go about issuing fake bank alerts.

“Traders should always ensure they check their bank apps to ensure their money is safely deposited in their accounts before they part with their goods.

“Parents too should be aware of happenings around their children especially the female ones. Calling your daughters ‘my wife’ should be discouraged by every parent.

“Victims are encouraged to alert the police on time for action to be taken.”

Opalola also warned motorists using one way and car dealers operating within the state without number plates.

She said any vehicle impounded by the police will not be released again.

“Motorists should stop using one way. We are warning. The police will no long take it. We will begin to arrest defaulters. When we impound such, bit may not not be released again.”

“Covering of number plates is prohibited. Using vehicles without number plates is also prohibited.

“I am particularly directing this warning to car dealers. When we arrest such vehicle, we will make enquiries about it. If it is not a new vehicle, it will be impounded and may not be released.”

She advised motorists to key into the Central Motor Registry and get their vehicles registered incase of car theft.

“It is very good incase of car theft, it will be easy for police to trace and recover such vehicle.

“Please go and register. You can come to our office at the Osun State Police Command headquarter for registration.”
