PAOK join Iheanacho race

Recently crowned Greece Super League champions PAOK Thessaloniki have entered the race for Nigeria international, Kelechi Iheanacho, with the player set to become a free agent, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

After seven seasons with Leicester City Iheanacho is set to become a free agent with his contract set to expire next month.

At the just concluded Championship season, the 27-year-old made 23 league appearances, contributing five goals and an assist as the Foxes were crowned champions to gain automatic promotion to the English Premier League.

Of the 23 league appearances, Iheanacho started 10 and was used as a substitute on 13 occasions from 46 league fixtures making a miserly 916 minutes from a possible 4,140 minutes.

Iheanacho’s total minutes played showed that he was no longer an integral part of the team and has thus not been offered a new contract despite having just a month left.

That has made the 27-year-old forward attractive for prospective suitors and he is reportedly wanted by some Turkish and Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa.

However, reports from Greece indicate that PAOK Thessaloniki are also interested in Iheanacho and are monitoring his situation.

“PAOK’S case of Kelechi Iheanacho is under consideration,” a Greek publication wrote on X.

“The footballer’s contract is expiring and he has not been offered a renewal by Leicester. In addition to Greece, there is also interest from Turkey and England for the player.”

Should the deal go through, Iheanacho could share the same dressing room with compatriots William Troost-Ekong.
