Paul Scholes has given his thoughts on Erik ten Hag remaining manager of Manchester United.
On Tuesday it emerged that Ten Hag was set to stay as United manager upon the conclusion of the club’s end of season review.
Following a period of uncertainty, United held talks with the Dutchman and established that the preference of both parties was for the 54-year-old to continue his tenure.
Moreover, it has been widely reported that United are set to enter negotiations with Ten Hag about extending his contract. His current deal runs until next June, with the option to prolong by a further 12 months.
United are said to have sounded out potential replacements during the review process, with the likes of former-Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel, ex-Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi and recently departed Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino all having been linked.
However, the club ultimately opted to stick with Ten Hag, a decision endorsed by the club’s legendary midfielder Scholes.
“Nice to wake up to this news, although I did think Palace away felt like the end,” Scholes wrote on Instagram. “Major improvements needed, but at least we have a bit of continuity and don’t have to wait for a new regime to settle in.
“Fans have given him and the players incredible support and deserve better next season.”
Last term United recorded their lowest Premier League finishing position (eighth) in their history while their 60 point tally was only two better than their worst total since the competition began in 1992.

Moreover, the club finished rock bottom of their Champions League group, which featured Bayern Munich, Galatasaray and Copenhagen, and were eliminated from the Carabao Cup in the round of 16.
However, Ten Hag’s masterminded an FA Cup triumph, becoming the first United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to claim silverware in consecutive seasons.
