A 35-year-old man, Godwin Peter Femi, has been arrested in Lagos after being accused of repeated sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl over three months.The police were alerted to the alleged abuse on September 10 when the girl’s father, Samuel, reported the matter to the Elemoro Police Division.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja.The victim’s father claimed that Femi, who resides in Adeba Ibeju-Lekki, had been forcibly engaging in sexual activity with his daughter since June 2024. He further alleged that the girl withdrew N20,000 from his bank account using his ATM card without permission on June 30.
The girl reportedly confessed to the withdrawal after a missing mobile phone was traced back to her. She admitted that the suspect had given her the phone and that she had given him the money when he threatened to kill her if she revealed the ongoing abuse.
The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime, claiming the victim was his girlfriend. Similarly, the police arrested three men on suspicion of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.
Fifty-one-year-old Sunday Akpan, 43-year-old Chibuzo Benjamin, and 42-year-old Emmanuel Okechukwu were apprehended following a report made to the Ago Okota Police Division on September 9, 2024.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Gender Unit. It was alleged that the abuse had been ongoing since August 2024. Chibuzo Benjamin, the victim’s stepfather, and Sunday Akpan, a neighbour, have reportedly confessed to the crime. Emmanuel Okechukwu, another neighbour, denied the allegations. Hundeyin confirmed the arrests and said an investigation was ongoing.
