Police arrest man over alleged murder of wife in Akwa Ibom


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Victor Okoh, 42, in connection with the murder of his wife, Victoria Okoh, 38, at their residence in Oron Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement in Uyo on Monday, stating that the arrest was made possible following a distress call from concerned residents of the area.

John revealed that police operatives stormed the building at about 5 am and apprehended the suspect, who had been hiding in the ceiling to evade arrest. Further investigations indicated that he had attacked the deceased with a machete over allegations of infidelity.

She further stated that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the general hospital’s mortuary in Oron LGA for autopsy, while investigations remain ongoing.

The statement reads in part: “At about 05:20 hrs, operatives of the Command swiftly responded to a distress call from concerned residents. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the mutilated body of the deceased lying outside the house she shared with her husband.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly attacked his wife with a machete over accusations of infidelity.”
