The Abia State Police Command has confirmed that it is aware of a trending video on Facebook showing some police officers allegedly manhandling a civilian at Lagos Street Umuahia on Thursday, 20th February 2025.
The Abia Police Command in press release on Friday, said the officers involved in the manhandling video have been identified, and are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) even as the Commissioner of Police in the State, Danladi Isa condemned the unprofessional act.
The press release which was signed by DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Spokesperson on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the public will be updated after necessary administrative actions have been taken against the erring officers.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, strongly condemns this act of unprofessional misconduct and incivility toward members of the public.
“He reiterates that under his leadership, the command is committed to ensuring a professionally competent, Rule of law complaint, and people-friendly police force in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police”, the press release said.
Abia State Police Command further advised the Abia public to report any misconduct, unprofessional behavior, or incivility by officers of the command to the Complaint Response Unit.
It would be recalled that three Policemen were on February 7,2025, dismissed and handed over for prosecution by the Commissioner of Police, after investigations.
The officers dismissed on February 7 were alleged to have been involved in conspiracy, abduction and extortion of their victims.
