Residents of Na’ibawa Eastern Bypass in Sabuwar Abuja Quarters, Kano State, have expressed deep frustration over a nearly year-long power outage that has severely impacted socio-economic activities in the area.
Ahmed Abdurrahman who spoke to newsmen in Kano on behalf of other residents described the situation as dire, highlighting that the outage has persisted for 10 months.
“This is the 10th month without electricity, and it seems no one is concerned about resolving our issue,” he said on Tuesday.
He said the problem reportedly began when the community’s transformer malfunctioned. While the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) eventually provided a replacement, residents were required to contribute approximately N2m for reconnection fees.
“How can they demand such an amount when many people can barely afford basic necessities?” Abdurrahman questioned.
Another resident, Sani Mohammad, urged the state government to intervene, citing the community’s financial struggles. “We’ve been trying to gather the money, but the response has been poor. We now appeal to Governor Abba Yusuf to assist us and ensure power is restored,” he said.
Attempts to reach KEDCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Sani for a response were unsuccessful, as calls to him went unanswered.
