Rio Ferdinand names the FOUR Man United players he’d sell and the star he’d need to ‘talk to’ about his future ahead of this summer… as he shares his thoughts on the club’s Mason Greenwood conundrum

Rio Ferdinand has named the Manchester United players that he would keep and sell this summer, if he were in charge of his former club.

United fans are hoping for a busy summer in the market after a season in which they finished in their lowest-ever position in the Premier League.

It has been confirmed that Erik ten Hag will remain in charge at Old Trafford after weeks of uncertainty over his future and Ferdinand has outlined what he thinks the Dutchman should do with the current squad.

Asked by Mail Sport which players should stay and which should go, Ferdinand said he would keep Andre Onana, Diogo Dalot, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund.

The former Red Devils centre-back would also want to see Casemiro stay for his ‘experience’ and Luke Shaw, as he remains ‘one of the best left-backs in the world’ despite his injury issues.

However, Ferdinand thinks it’s time for the club to part ways with Harry Maguire despite the defender’s recent upturn in form.

Ferdinand also thinks Antony and Christian Eriksen should be shown the door and that Jadon Sancho needs a fresh start somewhere else.

The 45-year-old was unsure when it came to Marcus Rashford, saying he’d need to speak to the forward first.

‘I’d need to find out where his head’s at, what he wants to do. What’s been the reasons for the downturn in performances.

‘If I get the right answer I keep him, if I don’t like what I hear I let him go.’

The other player he couldn’t give a definitive answer on was Mason Greenwood.

The 22-year-old forward, who has not featured for the Red Devils since he was arrested in January 2022 for attempted rape, assault and coercive control – charges that were subsequently dropped 13 months later – enjoyed a fruitful short loan spell at Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists.

There has been much debate over what to do with him and United, who completed their own internal investigation into the charges, are expected to sell the Manchester United star permanently this summer – and Juventus currently lead the race to land his signature.

Ferdinand said: ‘I’d need a conversation with him as well. See where his head’s at. Find out the temperature around the club.

‘I’d probably have a communication with the supporters groups as well. I think it’s a real club decision rather than a single person’s decision.’
