Rivers: Reps end plenary, refuse to mention Tinubu’s emergency rule declaration


The House of Representatives on Wednesday ended plenary without any mention of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

DAILY POST reported that President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday night declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The President made the pronouncement in a nationwide broadcast to the nation.

Nigerians had expected the emergency rule declaration to be part of deliberations at the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

However, the lawmakers ended plenary without raising the issue.

DAILY POST reported that some members of the Green Chamber had engaged in a heated argument over the declaration of the state of emergency.

The incident reportedly occurred before its plenary meeting on Wednesday.

DAILY POST sighted of video of the incident shared online by AIT news.

It was reported that Reps Blessing Amadi from Rivers State and Marie Ebikake engaged in a shouting match just before the commencement of plenary.

The House commenced plenary shortly after the incident, with the lawmakers resolving to investigate the conditional cash transfer programme of the Federal Government.
