Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju has urged the team’s new head coach Eric Chelle to adopt a formation that the national team is familiar with when they face Rwanda in Friday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Amahoro Stadium.
Chelle is set to take charge of his first game as head coach of the Super Eagles on Friday evening.
The three-time African champions are in desperate need of three points to keep their 2026 World Cup qualification hopes alive as they currently sit in 5th position in Group C.
However, Adepoju wants Chelle to maintain Nigeria’s traditional style of play, which according to him, is playing from the wings.
He cautioned the former Mali coach against introducing a new tactical setup against Rwanda.
“A system like that will be a little bit strange to the players and the fans as well,” Adepoju told Afrik-Foot.
“What we are used to is playing from the wings, having the ball all the time, and having players that can take it from the wings. It might take time to understand, but it depends on the players,” Adepoju said.
The kick-off time for Rwanda vs Nigeria is 5:00 pm.
