There was relative calm in Kano State on Friday as both the 15th and 16th Emir of the state capital, Aminu Ado Bayero and Muhammadu Sanusi, held separate Jumat prayers at two different locations within the state.
Recall that the state governor, Abba Yusuf, reinstated Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano recently, premising the appointment on Sanusi’s competence, credibility, and popularity.
Bayero, however, rejected the appointment, challenging its legality in the Federal High Court, Kano, which later ordered Sanusi’s eviction from the Kano Emir palace.
But the Kano State High Court restrained the police, Department of State Services, and the Nigerian Army from executing the eviction order, culminating in wide protests across the state.
However, while the supremacy battle continued in the state, both Sanusi and Bayero held parallel Jumat Prayers at different locations on Friday.
While Sanusi led the Friday prayers at the state Central Mosque, Bayero observed his parallel prayers at the Nasarawa Palace.
Speaking during the Friday prayers at the Kofar Kudu Central Mosque in the state capital, Sanusi emphasised that everything that happened was according to God’s will and could not be questioned by anyone.
He urged the people to remain steadfast in their faith and focus on the deeds of Allah during both good and bad times.
“Whoever believes that Allah alone gives everything must decide Allah wholeheartedly. No one asks Allah’s reasons for anything.
“We were told that whoever did not accept destiny is from Allah, his belief is not complete. One should be thankful in times of good and bad situations. We must believe that whatever happens to us is predestined by God.
“We are fast approaching Zhul Hijja which is very beneficial, and we must observe supplications these days,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Kano State police command has commended the peaceful parallel Jumat prayers held by the two leaders on Friday.
The state police command appreciated the state residents for their peaceful conduct when Sanusi and Aminu Bayero simultaneously presided over the parallel Friday prayers in the state.
In his commendation message, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Usaini Gumel, said, “I am very pleased with the orderly manner faithful residents conducted themselves before, during, and after the prayers without rancour in all parts of the state.”
The commissioner praised the residents and urged them to continue to cooperate with the police in other to ensure peaceful coexistence in the state.
“This is a testament to the effective collaboration between law enforcement and the community. The police Command is looking forward to hitch-free and continued partnership toward the sustenance of peace and order in the state”, he said.
