Shaibu planning to forcefully enter Govt House – Edo govt tells IGP

The Edo State Government has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the reinstated Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, to break into the State’s Government House on September 30th.

The Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, said Shaibu’s plan is to enforce his alleged reinstatement.

Osagie noted that Shaibu’s planned action comes despite a stay of execution appeal having been filed, challenging Justice J. K. Omotosho’s ruling to reinstate the embattled deputy governor.

In a statement issued on Saturday night, Osagie urged the Inspector General of Police to prevent Shaibu from executing such a plan.

According to Osagie: “We want to draw the attention of the Inspector General of Police to the intelligence we have gathered regarding a planned move by the erstwhile Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, to forcefully enter the Edo State Government House to purportedly enforce the ruling of Justice J. K. Omotosho.

“The stay of execution is still pending at the Court of Appeal, and we appeal to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the state does not descend into anarchy because of the ambition of one man. The last time Shaibu attempted this, it led to the death of a police officer. We believe that is one death too many, and it is only wise for us to prevent a repeat of such.”

A face-off between Shaibu and Obaseki had led to the Edo State House of Assembly impeaching the embattled deputy governor.

Following his impeachment, Obaseki inaugurated Marvelous Omobayo as his deputy governor.

However, an Abuja Federal High Court has since reinstated Shaibu as Edo State’s deputy governor.
