Stop blaming Mattawalle for your inability to fight banditry, Zamfara APC tells Gov Lawal

The Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, accused Governor Dauda Lawal of blaming his predecessor, Bello Mattawalle, and the APC for his inability to address the issue of banditry in the state.

In a statement signed by the APC spokesperson, Alhaji Yusuf Idris, the party said: “Governor Lawal has failed to fulfill his campaign promises to eliminate banditry and other security challenges in the state. Instead, he has been blaming his predecessor and the APC for his failures.”

Idris stated that the PDP-led government has continued to accuse the APC of being responsible for its failures, despite being in office for over a year.

“The PDP-led government has been accusing the APC of being responsible for its failures, despite being in office for over a year. This is unacceptable and we will not stand for it,” he said.

Idris also expressed disgust over the alleged withdrawal of N1.3 billion by the state government, which he claimed was used to settle bandits and journalists in the name of reconciliation. “The alleged withdrawal of N1.3 billion by the state government is a slap in the face of the people of Zamfara State. It is unacceptable and we demand an explanation,” he said.

The APC spokesperson maintained that Lawal’s government has failed to address the security challenges in the state, despite promising to do so during his campaign. “Governor Lawal promised to eliminate banditry and other security challenges in the state during his campaign, but he has failed to do so. Instead, he has been blaming his predecessor and the APC for his failures,” he said.

Idris criticized Lawal for not visiting victims of attacks and for being busy with “joy travels”. “The governor has not visited any of the victims of the attacks, but he has been busy traveling around the country, enjoying himself. This is unacceptable and we demand that he takes action to address the security challenges in the state,” he said.

Idris also faulted the state government’s handling of the security issue, saying that it has been politicized. “The security issue in the state has been politicized and this is unacceptable. We demand that the governor takes action to address the security challenges in the state, rather than blaming his predecessor and the APC,” he said.

The Zamfara State Government, however, had in its reaction, disagreed with the APC allegations, denying that it has released huge funds to bandits in exchange for dialogue.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, described the documents in circulation as fake and mischievous.
