Swedish school shooting: Police find suspect dead in building

The gunman suspected of opening fire on a Swedish adult education centre has been found dead in a building, police investigators probing the case said on Wednesday.

Officers heard gunshots when they arrived at the scene of the mass shooting on Tuesday, said Roberto Eid Forest, head of the police in the city of Örebro.

During a subsequent search of the building, the suspected shooter was found dead, he said.

Eid Forest could not confirm media reports that the suspect took his own life.

He added that not all of the eleven fatalities have been identified yet.

Recall that the shooting occurred at the school, called Campus Risbergska, in Örebro.

Much about the case remained unclear, including the motive.

Investigators assumed that the perpetrator acted alone and that it was not an act of terrorism.

Six people who were injured are still in hospital, Jonas Claesson, director of health services in the region, said at the news conference.

Five of them had life-threatening gunshot wounds when they were admitted.

Their conditions are all now stable, Claesson said, although two of them remained in intensive care, NAN reports.
