Texas Michelin Star restaurants | full award winners list


The Michelin Guide is in Texas for the first time and an entry for a restaurant means a boost in customers.

HOUSTON — The wait is over! We now know the restaurants that were honored in the inaugural Michelin Guide Texas edition.

The first Texas list was announced at a ceremony at Houston’s 713 Music Hall Monday night. In all, 15 restaurants received a Michelin Star, including six in Houston. There were also 45 Bib Gourmands, which goes to a restaurant with great food at a great value, and four special awards. In all, the awards honored 117 restaurants and 26 different types of cuisine.

“Our anonymous Inspectors were impressed by the culinary community across the state of Texas,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides. “The selection reflects their findings by highlighting uniquely Texas flavors, such as Barbecue and Tex-Mex, as well as several international influences. We are very honored to welcome these restaurants to the MICHELIN Guide family for the first time and we toast to the tremendous spirit of the Texas restaurant community!”

Let’s start with the six Houston restaurants that were among the restaurants awarded one Michelin Star.

  • BCN Taste & Tradition in Houston 
  • CorkScrew BBQ in Spring  
  • Le Jardinier in Houston  
  • March in Houston
  • Musaafer in Houston
  • Tatemó in Houston

There were also two Green-Starred restaurants. Both of those – Dai Due and Emmer & Ryne — are in Austin

As for the Bib Gourmand distinctions – the ones that are great food at a great value – these were the Houston-area restaurants honored.

  • Blood Bros BBQ in Belliare
  • Ema in Houston
  • Kau Ba in Houston
  • Killen’s in Houston
  • Killen’s BBQ in Pearland
  • Mala Sichuan Bistro in Houston
  • Nam Giao in Houston
  • Nancy’s Hustle in Houston
  • Nobie’s in Houston
  • Pinkerton’s BBQ in Houston
  • The Pit Room in Houston
  • Rosie Cannonball in Houston
  • Street to Kitchen in Houston
  • Tejas Chocolate in Tomball
  • Theodore Rex in Houston
  • Truth BBQ in Houston

As far as special awards, one Houston restaurant was among the winners. Steven McDonald with Pappa Bros. Steakhouse in Houston earned the Michelin Sommelier Award.  The others were Julian Shaffer of Rye in Dallas, who earned the Cocktail Award, Hailey Pruitt and Lauren Beckman of Mixtli in San Antonio with the Service Award and the Young Chef Award went to Edgar Rico of Nixta Taqueria in Austin.

There were also Michelin recommended restaurants. These are the ones in Houston that were honored.

  • Late August in Houston
  • Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Houston
