Organisers of the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) have announced that it has been selected again to become a member of the Festivals Committee at the FIAPF (Fédération Internationale des Associations de Producteurs de Films; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations), a global organisation representing the film production community worldwide and a key operator for film festivals worldwide.
As an international institution, FIAPF promotes conditions for film production to flourish across the globe, in particular by vigorously defending relevant copyright framework and strong protection for films and other creative content. As organisation supervising film festivals across the world, it also accredits and draws up the operation regulations of the accredited festivals.
The primary role of the festivals committee is to provide a platform to discuss the evolution and the issues faced between International Film Festivals and in the relations between producers or their mandates and International Film Festivals.
Its role also includes the monitoring of the accredited festivals’ performance, recommendations to FIAPF on the regulations for international film festivals and supporting conflict resolution between the festivals.
It has a total of 14 members, including the president of FIAPF, three committee members from the film industry appointed by FIAPF and ten representatives of FIAPF accredited film festivals.
On this occasion, TIFF has been selected again for a three-year term from 2024 to 2027 following 2021-2023 term and joins the Festivals Committee together with Berlin International Film Festival (Germany), Busan International Film Festival (Korea), Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France), Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland), Mar del Plata International Film Festival (Argentina), Shanghai International Film Festival (China), Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia (Spain), Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Estonia) and Toronto International Film Festival (Canada).
