“It can get crazy for somebody with that much attention, and she just keeps it so chill and so cool,” the Kansas City Chiefs player explained on a recent podcast episode
The love story between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift is still being written, but the Kansas City Chiefs player was able to identify the turning point when he realized he was falling for the pop superstar. During a recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Kelce reflected on his experience watching Swift navigate high-profile events, like the 2024 Super Bowl or her own Eras tour.
“She’s very self-aware, she understands situations like that. And I think that’s why I really started to really fall for her, was how genuine she is around friends [and] family,” the athlete explained. “It can get crazy for somebody with that much attention and she just keeps it so chill and so cool.”
Swift has spent enough time in her own spotlight that it wasn’t too difficult to navigate being in his. When she first started attending Kelce’s games, he remembered, he offered to have security assist with ushering her through private entrances and whatever else would help minimize the pressure of the attention.
“And she just walked right through the front door,” he said. “She was just like, ‘I just want to be
around the family and friends and experience this with everybody.’ I was just like, she got beaucoup points for that. I was like, damn, she’s just in the madness. She wants to be a part of it, she wants to support me, and do things like that. She really won me over with that one.”
Kelce and Swift have been dating for nearly a year. When she spoke about the relationship herself last year, she echoed similar sentiments about what it feels like to date in the public eye. “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there, and we don’t care,” she told TIME. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
