Trump optimistic about Russia’s ceasefire agreement with Ukraine

President Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed optimism that Russia would agree to a ceasefire in its ongoing war with Ukraine.

Trump, however, refused to confirm whether he has a scheduled meeting or phone call with President Vladimir Putin.

The President commented on the conflict while speaking to reporters at the White House alongside Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.

The U.S. leader confirmed that “a great success” was achieved during the talks between the United States and Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia.

“We have a full ceasefire. It’s up to Russia now,” Trump said. “We’ve had a good relationship with both parties, actually. People are going to Russia right now as we speak.

“Hopefully, we can get a ceasefire from Russia, and if we do, I think that would be 80 percent of the way to getting this horrible bloodbath finished.”

The President also lamented that, on average, about 2,000 to 3,000 young people were being killed every day in the “stupid war.”
