Two injured, three kidnapped in bandit attack on Katsina hospital

The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that armed bandits attacked Kankara General Hospital on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, injuring two people and abducting three others.

Police spokesperson DSP Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement, revealed that the attack occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. when heavily armed assailants stormed the hospital, firing sporadically and throwing staff and patients into panic.

The bandits targeted the hospital, prompting a swift response from officers of the Kankara Divisional Police Headquarters. A gun battle between the security forces and the attackers disrupted the operation, forcing the bandits to retreat.

Two individuals, Dr. Murtala Saleh, 30, and Kamala Suleiman, 20, were injured in the attack. Dr. Saleh sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh, while Suleiman was shot in the knee. Both victims were immediately taken to a medical facility for treatment and are now in stable condition.

Amid the chaos, the assailants abducted three individuals, whose identities remain undisclosed for security reasons.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, has strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a “heinous crime against humanity.” He has ordered a comprehensive manhunt to track down the perpetrators and deployed additional personnel to enhance security in the area.

“Efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victims safely and bring the culprits to justice,” DSP Aliyu assured.

The police have urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities by providing any information that could aid in apprehending the attackers.
