US commends Armenia-Azerbaijan treaty, Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border agreement

The United States on Friday congratulated Armenia and Azerbaijan on concluding negotiations on a historic peace treaty.

The US described it as an opportunity for both nations to turn the page on a decades-old conflict, in line with President Trump’s vision for a more peaceful world.

A statement by Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it was time to “commit to peace, sign and ratify the treaty, and usher in a new era of prosperity for the people of the South Caucasus.”

The United States also praised Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic for their historic agreement to delineate and demarcate their border.

The State Department’s spokesperson, Tammy Price, noted that the accomplishment reflected the commitment of both governments to diplomacy and regional stability.

Price said that settling border disputes “is one of the most difficult diplomatic tasks a government can undertake,” commending both sides for their determination to overcome obstacles.

The US expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for robust trade, stronger people-to-people ties, and increased prosperity and peace for the countries and the wider region.
