War: US reacts as Israel continues bombing Gaza amid ceasefire deal

Over 86 people have been killed in Gaza ever since the ceasefire and hostage release deal was announced on Wednesday.

The deal would come into full implementation on Sunday depending on the outcome of the meeting of the Israeli cabinet with Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday morning.

Warplanes are said to have kept up intense strikes in Gaza while Israel delayed a cabinet vote on the ceasefire and hostage release deal.

The Guardian UK quoted Palestinian authorities to have said late on Thursday that at least 86 people were killed in the day after the truce was unveiled.

The IDF said late on Thursday that in its hoint operation with Shin Bet, the Air Force had attacked approximately 50 terrorist targets throughout the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours.

In response, however, the US said it still expected the deal to go into effect on Sunday as planned.

White House spokesperson John Kirby said Washington believed the agreement was on track and the was expected to proceed “as soon as late this weekend”.

“We are seeing nothing that would tell us that this is going to get derailed at this point,” Reuters reports him telling CNN on Thursday.
