Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Imo, Mrs. Mary Mbanugo, says officers of the NSCDC are ready for deployment to cover the Edo governorship and Imo council elections.
This is contained in a statement signed by the NSCDC’s Public Relations Officer in Imo, Mr Lowell Chimeziri, a Chief Superintendent of Corps, and made available to newsmen in Owerri, on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mbanugo assumed office on Monday, after an official handover from her predecessor, Mr Matthew Ovye, who was redeployed to Delta.

Chimeziri said that many officers and men of the Imo command had been deployed to Edo for coverage of the governorship poll while others would cover the council elections in Imo on Saturday, September 21.
He said that in a meeting with the command’s men and officers, Mbanugo charged them to operate within the ambit of the law at all times and never to take negative advantage of the electorate.
“ The security luminary swiftly convened an emergency briefing comprising of the command 2ic, Heads of Department, Unit, Section, Area Commanders, Divisional officers and all the command’s arm bearers on the way forward.

“ We are leaving no stone upturned in this national assignment, no compromise, we must exhibit a high level of professionalism before, during and after the two elections in Edo and lmo States “, he quoted the Commandant as saying.
She, however, expressed confidence that with proper inter-agency cooperation among security agencies, the elections would be successful.
