What Chelsea plan to do after signing Estevao Willian from Palmeiras

Chelsea confirmed on Saturday that they had reached an agreement to sign Estevao Willian from Palmeiras.

The Blues have really tapped into the South American market recently, with Estevao Willian being their latest addition from that part of the world.

As well as the winger, Chelsea have also signed the likes of Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel from Brazilian clubs.

They have bought Kendry Paez from Ecuadorian side Independiente Del Valle as well.

However, it does not look like Chelsea are done with the South American market just yet.

Are Chelsea going to sign more players from South America?

Journalist Ben Jacobs has been discussing Estevao’s move to Chelsea on social media.

According to Jacobs, following the signing of the 17-year-old, the Blues plan to continue being aggressive in the South American market and are currently in talks to sign Boca Juniors’ Aaron Anselmino.

On X, Jacobs said: “Bayern [Munich] had also considered making a move, but Estevao sold on Chelsea.

“Chelsea will continue to be aggressive in the South American market with discussions ongoing over Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.”

Will Chelsea’s South American strategy work?

Chelsea are acquiring some very young and talented footballers.

Paez and Santos are already full internationals for Ecuador and Brazil respectively, for example.

With the trajectory that Estevao is on, you would expect him to earn his first senior cap for Brazil soon as well.

However, it is way too early to tell whether this element of Chelsea’s transfer strategy is going to bear fruit. And even if it does, it may take some time, as these players are still very young.

It may be years before the Stamford Bridge faithful get to see the likes of Estevao and Paez at their best. Regardless of how much talent they have, expecting two teenagers to hit the ground running in the Premier League is a lot to ask for.
