Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has responded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) invitation following his accusations of bribery against some of its officers, saying he will not honor the anti-graft agency’s invitation unless the case is taking to Abuja.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, VeryDarkMan called on the EFCC to probe its personnel before summoning him. He questioned the integrity of the commission’s officers, particularly in relation to Bobrisky’s case.
He said, “The EFCC’s press release didn’t even address the core issue. Why didn’t they confirm that Bobrisky was in their custody? Bobrisky is the suspect, and the EFCC should have verified that. If the person who released the statement couldn’t confirm Bobrisky’s detention, there’s a problem.”
Challenging the commission further, he stated, “Before inviting someone like me, you should first conduct a thorough investigation of your officers, especially those involved in Bobrisky’s case. Examine their accounts and actions. Only after that can you invite me, Martin Otse, aka VeryDarkMan.”
VeryDarkMan also expressed distrust in the EFCC, stating that he would only consider honoring their invitation if the investigation is handled at the commission’s Abuja headquarters.
He added, “You’re asking me to come to Lagos when the EFCC headquarters is in Abuja—it doesn’t make sense. I suggest you invite Bobrisky to Abuja for the investigation. Besides, I don’t have N15 million to settle anything, and I don’t have a godfather. I don’t trust you, and you could easily set me up. Investigate your officers first, then talk to me.”

In a lighter tone, he joked that if he were to consider going, the EFCC would need to provide first-class accommodations. “Even if I want to come, you have to book me a first-class ticket and a five-star hotel. You can send me an invitation to come with my money, no be me collect N15 million now,” he added.
This comes after the EFCC invited VeryDarkMan to assist in an investigation following a viral video where cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, alleged that some EFCC officers took N15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.
The EFCC, in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the invitation of both VeryDarkMan and Bobrisky to its Lagos Directorate to assist in unearthing the bribery allegations. Oyewale added that EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations.
“The EFCC chairman has ordered an immediate investigation of alleged bribery allegations imputed to some officers of the Commission by Idris Okuneye (a.k.a. Bobrisky) in a viral video circulating across the country. Okuneye, an ex-convict, had alleged in the video powered by VeryDarkMan that some unnamed officers of the EFCC collected the sum of N15,000,000 from him to drop money laundering charges against him,” Oyewale said.
He assured Nigerians that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the findings made public.
“The Commission is committed to its core values of integrity, courage, professionalism, and collaboration at all times,” Oyewale added.
