Wolves vs Liverpool predictions: Reds should add to Wolves’ woes

– Liverpool have won 11 of their last 13 meetings with Wolves
– Liverpool have scored three or more in four of their last five games
– Recommended bet:
Over 2.5 Liverpool goals

After five matches, Wolves find themselves rooted to the foot of the Premier League table with only a solitary point and their fortunes are unlikely to change with Liverpool the next visitors to Molineux.

The early-season fixture list has been cruel on Wolves, who have already faced Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle, but they have surrendered leads in their last two league matches.

With Liverpool having won four of their opening five Premier League matches to nil, Wolves may be fearing the worst given their only point of the campaign came in a 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.

Manager Arne Slot has created a strong impression in his bid to follow in the footsteps of Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have responded superbly to their shock 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest on matchday four.

The Reds have since kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 victory away at Milan, won 3-0 at home to Bournemouth in the Premier League and thrashed West Ham 5-1 in the EFL Cup.

Team news

Gary O’Neil suffered a major injury blow during the latest 3-1 loss at Aston Villa, with defender Yerson Mosquera picking up a knee injury which could keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.

Toti Gomes has returned to training and could be Mosquera’s direct replacement, but Bastien Meupiyou, Boubacar Traore, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdic remain sidelined and Rayan Ait-Nouri is a doubt.

For Liverpool, Harvey Elliott is their only confirmed absentee, although goalkeeper Alisson Becker is a major doubt, meaning Caoimhin Kelleher could again deputise.

The stats

Liverpool have won 11 of their last 13 meetings with Wolves.

Wolves have lost four of their opening five league games, conceding at least twice in every defeat.

Liverpool have won six of their seven matches in all competitions this season, scoring three or more in four of their last five games.

Six of Wolves’ last eight Premier League home games have seen both teams score.

Wolves have lost their last three matches with both teams finding the net.

Prediction

Liverpool have shown few signs of distress in the early days of Slot’s era and they should be able to make hay at Wolves, who have one point from five games and have leaked 14 goals.

Not only have Wolves lost 6-2 at home to Chelsea this season, but they have conceded three in defeat to Aston Villa and Brighton in league and cup in their last two starts and they are proving unreliable defensively following Max Kilman’s departure.

So Liverpool, having scored at least three goals in four of their last five matches, could run riot with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah in such imperious form.

Slot was able to rest most of his stars for Wednesday’s 5-1 EFL Cup victory at home to West Ham but they should be back to full strength for the trip to Molineux, which may spell trouble for winless Wolves.
