The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has conducted a performance review meeting with the executive chairmen of the state’s 17 local government areas to assess their activities, particularly in security, education, and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Represented by his deputy, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana, the governor emphasized the importance of fostering peace within communities and ensuring the effectiveness of local governance.
The meeting, held in Damaturu, centered on critical issues such as enhancing security, resolving farmer-herder conflicts, boosting education, and improving revenue generation.
Governor Buni reiterated the need for local government chairmen to prioritize security and provide full support to security agencies in their areas, emphasizing that peace is fundamental for progress.
He also directed the chairmen to intensify school supervision and ensure timely reporting of progress in their respective areas.
On the issue of revenue generation, Governor Buni tasked the chairmen with eliminating corruption and plugging revenue leakages to enhance the financial stability of local governments. He expressed dissatisfaction over reports of absenteeism, late coming, and early departures among local government staff, warning that such attitudes would no longer be tolerated.
“Local governments are crucial for community development as they provide essential services and foster civic engagement. They must rise to the challenge of delivering impactful governance,” the governor stated.
The governor also urged the chairmen to strengthen monthly prayers for peace and stability in the state.
He expressed optimism that unity and effective governance at the grassroots level would contribute significantly to the overall development of Yobe State.
