You don’t allow American banks do business – Trump slams Canada for banking regulations

United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday criticized Canada’s banking regulations, insisting that American banks are barred from operating in the country while Canadian banks have access to the U.S. market.

Trump stated this in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday.

He wrote: “Canada doesn’t allow American banks to do business in Canada, but their banks flood the American market. Oh, that seems fair to me, doesn’t it?”

DAILY POST reports that this comes amid ongoing U.S.-Canada trade tensions.

Trump had vowed to impose 25% tariffs on all imports from Canada and Mexico, with 10% for Canadian energy.

The tariffs are scheduled to take effect at 12:01 a.m. EST (0501 GMT) on Tuesday.

However, the Canadian government announced a sweeping package of counter-tariffs against U.S.-made products after Trump confirmed that his government would go ahead with levies against Canada and Mexico on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau revealed this in a statement late Monday.

According to him, Canada will respond with 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods.
