5 – 1: Such a big blow, as Sheffield gets relegated from EPL

Newcastle up their game and get a head of steam. Then our old mistakes start to fall in and goals go from two to three to four to five pretty quickly.

Sheffield United have been relegated from the English Premier League (EPL) after they were thrashed 5-1 by rampant Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

The home team recovered from a sluggish start to beat Chris Wilder’s side, who got the first goal of the encounter as early as the 5th minute through Ahmedhodzic.

The Blades then carved out several opportunities to double their advantage as Newcastle struggled to gain a grip on proceedings.

However, Newcastle recovered and made it 1-1 in the 26th minute after Alexander Isak drilled home from Jacob Murphy’s pass.

They then went ahead for the first time in the game in the 54th minute when Bruno Guimaraes steered Lewis Hall’s delivery into the far corner.

Isak registered his 23rd goal of the season from the penalty spot after Anthony Gordon was brought down by Holgate, before the unfortunate Ben Osborn bundled into his own net for Newcastle’s fourth.

Callum Wilson came off the bench for the hosts to score his first top-flight goal since October and make it 5-1.

The defeat leaves the Sheffield United 10 points adrift of safety following Burnley’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford with only three games remaining.
